Italy, 1950 - Dimensions: 250 x 245 cm, high historical value, a true work of art.
An extraordinary pure silk bedspread, richly decorated with floral motifs and finished with a silk and cotton fringe on three sides. Beige colour (a very rare colour!)
Vintage bedspread, dating back to the first half of 1900s. This piece is in an outstanding state of preservation, it shows signs of oxidation and stains of wear consistent with its age.
Artefact of great value and very heavy.
Real masterpieces, proof of the accuracy in the preparation of patterns and jacquard loom prints, as well as the evolution of fashion. These fabrics are never ordinary, but are rich of different meanings, with an inimitable patina that only an authentic ageing can give.
The fabric is to be cleaned and the stains are to be removed.
Dimensions: 250 x 245 cm, fringe on 3 sides.
The brocade is a textured fabric with complex colourful designs made of discontinuous wefts that do not run through all the breadth the fabric. Made on specially crafted looms.
From the 19th century it was generally woven with a Jacquard loom , previously a draw loom was used.
In industrial weaving the term is also used to describe a fabric made with warp and that therefore requires more warps, one for the fabric and others for the work.
The additional weft is called brocade weft and help to build the design that comes from the background in another colour. On the reverse, the additional warps and wefts can be attached to the bottom or remain free to form bridles, and therefore do not appear on the front, because there is no need for them on the design .
It is traditionally made of silk or fine cotton, with the addition of precious metal textures in gold and silver. But the technique also applies to any other type of fibre.
