Description
Islamic Terracotta water pitcher (Askos) , 12,5 x 16 cm
1200 A.D.

Water has multiple meanings within Islam. Not only is it the source of life, but it has a purifying meaning for man, since it cleanses both his exterior (the body) and his interior (the soul), the latter with an eminently spiritual meaning. This jug of water with a handle has an original design that recalls in its forms the body of a bird or dove.
