Luristan Bronze Rat-Tanged SpearHead
Circa. Late Second Millennium B.C.

A finely cast Luristan rat-tanged bronze spar head features a narrow, leaf-shaped blade with a prominent mid-rib. Its has gently curved shoulders, a short tang tapering to a point and terminating into a small knob that resembles a rat’s tail.

Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, a region situated in the area of modern South-Western Iran. Axe heads, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased.
