Luristan Bronze Kohl Tripod and Applicator

A finely moulded Luristan bronze kohl tripod, featuring a globular container that rises from three integrally cast tripod-legs and narrows into a cylindrical neck. A bronze kohl applicator is also supplied.

Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, a region situated in the area of modern South-Western Iran. Bronze kohl containers, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased.

Measurement: 11.8 cm height 5 cm width

Provenance: Private London collection, SM, acquired 1970-99.
