Ancient Roman Gilded silver - Rare early Christian openwork Ring with crosses - (1)

Outstanding Roman - early Christian silver gilt ring showing an openwork panel / projecting bezel with 4 finely detailed openworked crosses and central star.

Rings with projecting bezels were inspired by bronze key rings, thought to open small boxes (or marriage caskets). This ring type is excessively rare.

Outside diameter: 23 x 20,9 mm
Inside diameter: 20,1 x 17,9 mm
Weight: 6,15 g

Condition: good solid condition, wearable. Original gilding still present on the main front part. Patina and signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
