In 1730 Henry Burmester and John Nash founded Burmester & Nash in London, dedicated to the grain trade. Later, in 1750, already in Vila Nova de Gaia, they began exporting Port Wine to Europe and the British Isles. The family name comes from the small town of Moelln in northern Germany, deriving from the title Burgomestre, which means head of municipality. From generation to generation, the Burmester and Gilbert stood out for their rigor and their devotion to Port Wine, raising the Burmester name to the highest level of quality and international recognition.
