Money bar with various types of shells. The local population in Papua used shell money for trade but also to buy a bride or a piece of land. Nowadays, paper money is used in Papua New Guinea. Current currency is the ‘kina’ which refers to the shell money; the kina shell was one of the shells they paid with.
