Laser-cut, Acrylic paint - Hand signed - 2 - 2020
I am a mathematics teacher. I teach and live in Maastricht, Netherlands. Besides teaching math, I have a passion for design. I have been designing mathematical art pieces for years.
My interest in design turned to Islamic Geometric Art in recent years. Geometric patterns were used to decorate mosques, palaces, homes and many buildings in many countries from Middle Asia to Morocco and Spain. I am trying to create new works using geometric patterns. Islamic craftsmen and artists developed an instantly recognizable aesthetic based on repeated geometrical shapes.
I try recreating the patterns on the computer. I use a laser cutter to cut them out and paint using watercolor or acrylic.
I make the artworks a limited run of 50. I sign and number each piece.
