Long Baccarat crystal box, solid silver lid, part of a Napoleon III period toiletry set, mid 19th century circa 1860.
The format is ideal as a desk trim for storing ballpoint pencils.
Beautiful model in cut strong crystal with cut-off sides, lid in guilloché silver decorated with a large Louis XV style engraved and openwork cartouche in which is engraved a Duke's crown topped by a monogram PL.
The lid has the Minerva 1st grade hallmark, as well as a goldsmith's mark.
A beautiful witness to the refinement of the aristocracy's art of living in the 19th century. While everyday objects decorated with count or marquis crowns are more common to find, ducal crowns are extremely rare (highest level in the "hierarchy" of nobility titles, under princes, kings and emperors).
Beautiful set, unique opportunity.
