In 1885 Hugo Berger (Goberg) started his first metal factory in Schmalkalden Germany, where decorative wrought ironwork was manufactured.
Typical for Goberg's work are the use of hones materials like iron and copper. The handmade character is clearly visible. His style, method and materials perfectly fit in with the Arts & Crafts movement, a style that was very popular at that time.
In the early 20th he became known around the world, because the leading department store Liberty and related shops sold a lot of his work
