Rare heteromorph ammonites Spiny Crioceratites majoricensis, mortality plate from the Upper Hauterivian, Balearic area.
In this rare cluster two amazing 3D ammonites are well preserved.
Matrix is 18 cm.
This museum-quality Crioceratites specimen was discovered and prepared by a renowned fossil preparator and collector. Many painstaking hours of work were needed to expose the three-dimensional form of the fossil from the matrix.
Please note that spines rarely fossilise, they are incredibly difficult to prepare, and some likely wore off during the ammonite lifetime.
In this specimen spines have been reconstructed when the specimen has been prepared to show how it might have appeared in life.
Restoration notes: 100% of the spines are reconstructed and glued into their original anatomical position.
The largest ammonite is 8.5 cm wide from spine to spine.
The smallest ammonite is 7.5 cm wide from spine to spine.
Please note: some repairs and cracks are present as normal as the stone is quite fragile. This is not made in a factory!
It looks great from every angle and would be an amazing display in a home, office or museum.
