The reason: a workshop on the art of design and surprise. Under the direction of illustrator and graphic designer Laurie Rosenwald, the students produced hundreds of designs, which IKEA now (with the consent of the students, of course) transformed into yard goods and other textiles. The Beckmans College of Design was founded in 1939 by Anders Beckman, a renowned Swedish commercial artist and designer.
