Antique Greek, Bulgarian or Romanian icon ‘Transfiguration of Christ on Mount Tabor’. Hand-painted with egg tempera colour or oil on a wooden panel with chalk background. The icon was made according to traditional methods. The wooden panel was then covered in fabric and primed with chalk. In the second step, the painting was done. Likely from the 19th century. The painting is relatively simple. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear and tear in the form of scratches, minimal paint flaking on the edge. A larger piece is missing from the upper right corner (see photos). The painting has craquelure. Minimal partial restorations are present.
Two cross-sponkis are present on the back, which are attached to the front with a nail (see photos).
Pretty rare and sought-after motif.
All details are well-visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description.
