Description
Icon (1) - Wood - 19th century
Russia

Well-preserved antique Russian ‘four-field icon’ from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colour on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. Pretty detailed painting. Perfectly matched colour contrasts. Warm eye-catching colours. The four biblical scenes show the birth of Our Lady, the birth of Christ, the baptism of Christ and the introduction of Our Lady into the temple. The scenes are labelled and easy to read. The faces of the saints are depicted detailed (see photos). The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear and tear in the form of dings, especially at the edge and corners (see photos), scratches and dirt (see photos). The painting has minimal craquelure. Partial restorations are present. The cross-sponki on the back is missing.

All details are well-visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description.
