Fetish Dog - Nail, Wood - Nkisi Nkondi - Bakongo - Congo DRC
1st half 20th century - Fair

Nkisi Nkondi Kozo Mbwa Fetish dog

L= 55 cm , H= 30 cm. The wood tail and feet have been re-glued, some metal nails and inserts missing (see pictures) blades, nails in iron, iron blades, red pigments on the face, a mirror charge on top above the head.

Condition: feet and tail reglued.

The Kongo nkisi nkondi in the shape of a dog, Kozo, from the Cabinda area (wood and iron))
Among the Kongo wild animals are associated with the dead, who are buried away from villages, either in the forests or across rivers. Domesticated animals such as dogs live in villages but are used to hunt game in the forests. They are, therefore, considered as mediators between the worlds of the living and the dead.

A quite big figure from a known collection.
I will pack carefully but will not take responsibility if one of the feet or tail break during transport ( will be easy to re-glue if needed) ..
