Painting depicting the flagellation of Christ or guiding Christ to the cross (ecce homo, not crowned).
first subject, afflicted Christ seen from behind. Please note the anatomy of the body, the power of the shoulder and shoulder blade. Very strong with power transmission. Christ in profile with traits of suffering typical of the ecce homo, long curly black hair. White robe, in the canvas you can also see the shaded abdomen. The chiaroscuro and shadows are very particular, the part of the face is very bright.
Second subject, the scourger, Dark-haired, behind Christ holding a whip in his hand, painted in profile.
All on a Titian-like background.
Relined in the 19th century. In the painting, as seen from the back, there are two horizontal strips. The back has been stretched to accommodate the new canvas, in fact in the upper edges you can see how the painting reaches precisely. The part that in the past was folded at the edges of the stretcher has been excellently reinstated with paint and does not show craquelure.
There are some old restorations on the painting.
