Amitāyus is a Buddha of the Mahayana's and Vajrayana's Buddhism.
He reigns over the "Pure Western Land of Beatitude" a wonderful, pure and perfect world, with no evil or suffering. This pure land, place of refuge outside the transmigrations cycle is at the centre of the pure Land's beliefs and practices.
