Samson porcelain inkwell with (worn silver plate?) brass top. Four pen holders. A fifth bears a lid which is probably decorative. Removable glass vessel for ink still intact. Lid with leaf fineal opens and closes perfectly.
Chinese famille verte style. Two good quality lively, hand painted panels depicting a bird with flowers-cherry blossom and a bamboo garden. Typical Samson XXX lattice decoration in greens on the body over white ground. Two inverted conch handles on wither side. Below one there is an accidental extra line of glaze.
Two handpainted marks under the base: a fine, complex artist signature and a shield or leaf (?), possibly painted over more marks.
12 cm high (to finial). Top, 9 cm diameter.
