Early silver scent box made in Gouda by Willem Vosmeer (working 1709-1755). Hallmarked with a unicorn in oval, city mark of Gouda and year letter W. The W is probably from 1726, but an image of this year letter is not included in Goud- en zilvermerken by Voet and the book Gouds zilver: work by Gouda silversmiths (until 1813). Given the model and decoration of the box, 1726 is plausible, but 1751 could also be an option given the active period of Vosmeer.
Box has a VOC ship on the lid and further, is possibly decorated with a representation of the coronation ceremony of William & Mary in 1689. (king governor William III of Oranje with Mary II of England).,
Box is in a fairly good condition, possibly with a minor repair under the hinge on the "soldered seam". Perhaps it is original and it is wear on the decoration.
Dim: 3 cm height, and 2.5 cm in diameter.
