Mbole figurine - Democratic Republic of Congo
Ancestry figurine used by the Mbole ethnic group.
The Okifa figurines known as "hanged" were carved during the hanging of a man or woman. These prisoners were not entitled to traditional funerals and were buried in the forest.
The figurines themselves were hung on a branch, as evidenced by some signs of friction, with the rope usually passing under the arms.
The figurine was purchased in Lomé (Togo) by the owner in 2011.
It is in good condition with traces of tribal use, as shown in the pictures.
