Bembe figurine - Democratic Republic of Congo
The best known figurines among the Bembe are called Biteki, and usually show magnificent scars of the body.
They represent leaders, warriors but also women.
Thanks to their Bilongo (magic charge inserted into a cavity or other), these figurines protect and participate in the fight against witchcraft and evil.
These figurines depict the deceased. They remember the life of the presence of the deceased so that they can participate in the activities of their descendants.
The figurine was purchased in Lomé (Togo) by the owner in 2013.
It is in good condition with traces of tribal use, as shown in the pictures.
