Antelope mask of the DOGON tribe - MALI.
The piece is weathered and greyed and has some termite damage.
That's exactly as we know the older DOGON masks, we wouldn't want to see them differently. This gives them their character!
The dimensions are: Height 55 cm. Width: 15 cm. Depth 9 cm.
The estimated age is circa mid last century.
One of the most important masks of the DOGON.
The horns have not been broken which is exceptional, usually they have been.
You will receive a CERTIFICATE with a picture, a description and an old age attestation signed by AFRICANART..
From the private collection of the Belgian Ambassador to Mozambique with residence in Maputo in the 1950s. On his return to Belgium, he lived in Dalhem near Liège until his death. He owned a large and important collection of African art that is now partly in my possession.
His collection was stored on his estate for decades. The coming period several of its pieces will be auctioned. I also posted some pictures of the Governor. I can eventually e-mail these.
