The Yaure are a subgroup of the Akan people, established in Ivory Coast and in Ghana. Geographic neighbours of the Baule and the Guro, the Yaure have benefited of mutual artistic influence.
This Yaure mask presents a face delicately shaped, the polished surface has satin reflects.
A typical crenellation borders the face, decorated with successive geometric forms, distinctive of the ethnic group.
The nose is finely worked, and is in the extension of the eyebrows, a rather Baule feature. The eyelids are dyed with kaolin and the mouth is rounded.
Good condition. Traces of wear and desication cracks.
