Description
Agnus Dei XVIII Sec. (1) - Wood, Agnus dei and child in wax, gold and silver thread - 18th century
Italy

Magnificent reliquary frame dating back to the 18th century, containing a wax medallion representing the ‘Agnus Dei’ (the Lamb of God); below one can see a wax statue of the Child Jesus.
The ‘Agnus Dei’ were blessed by the Pope and offered to members of the clergy or dignitaries.
The bottom is richly embroidered with pearls, gold and silver threads (quilling)
The wooden frame, as shown in the photos, has some small gaps due to ageing.
The upper cymatium, on the other hand, is in good condition in respect to the period.
Glass with a chipping.
Shots were taken as closely as possible to highlight the typical workmanship and the Agnus Dei plus the child in wax, and with different lightning; however it was chosen not to remove the glass or disassemble the painting to avoid damage.
Frame dimensions: width 35 cm, height 33 cm, including the cymatium height approx. 48 cm.
It will be professionally packed with special wrapping material in order to preserve the masterpiece; traced and insured shipping included in the price.
