2 X 1 OZ Somalia and South Africa 2018 :
1 oz Somalia Elephant | Silver | 2018
Somali elephants are preferred by collectors and investors from all over the world - and rightly so. Their silver content, the fact that the design of the elephants changes every year and their unusual pedigree sets it apart and makes it a safe bet for both new and experienced silver coin lovers. The Somali Elephant is part of the African Wildlife series - in fact, it is the only piece in the series so far. At first glance, this silver coin appears to be from Africa but, in fact, it is issued by the prestigious Bavarian State Mint in Munich.
The first silver coins of the African Wildlife series issued from 1999 to 2003 featured the emblem of Zambia. Since 2004, silver elephants have been minted with the Somali emblem - two leopards resting on spears adorned with palm leaves and a ribbon supporting a shield and a five-pointed star. This unique history and the fact that the Somali silver elephant is a product of the Bavarian State Mint, an institution known around the world for its exceptional quality control, contribute to the coin's popularity.
For 2018, the Mint has chosen the image of a bull elephant that has its tusks pointing forward. The trunk of the majestic animal is raised as if it were fooling the herd and curls towards the edge of the coin. This is one of Somalia's most stunning silver elephant designs to date and this new silver coin is certainly going to be sought after.
