A pair of double gourd shaped copper vases, standing 18cm tall without the base and weighing a combined 1507g, made from hundreds of layers of cinnabar (mercury ore) lacquer, each taking 24 hours to dry in a process that can take months to complete. The black lacquer is coloured with fine charcoal powder. Finely and symmetrically decorated with deeply carved floral arrangements in cartouches surrounded by stylized lotus vines and flowers, the undersides enameled in blue. The large plate measures 25.5cm in diameter and is similarly carved from layers of cinnabar lacquer, decorated with floral scenes. The carved wooden stand is included in this sale.
Condition: Generally very good, minor lacquer loss to one spot on one vase, see pictures, otherwise no damages or repairs.
