Probably made out of a plaster with a terra cotta patination on an ebonised wooden stand

H.F. Antheunis studied at the Academy of Arts in The Hague, where he was a student of the well-known sculptor Bon Ingen Housz. Antheunis would eventually become known as a sculptor, but also became a medalist and designer. Antheunis was best known for his Christian religious images, but around 1935 also made a beautiful series of plaster sculptures based on Egyptian antiquity.
