The 250 GTO was originally designed to participate in GT races. Remarkable, however, is that Ferrari seems to have intended the car for the ordinary road. In the sixties it was customary for Ferrari to give racing cars an even chassis number and "regular" cars odd numbers. All copies of the 250 GTO were given odd chassis numbers. The car was based on the 250 GT SWB. Head of the technical department, Giotto Bizzarrini, placed the 3.0L V12 engine from the 250 Testa Rossa in the chassis of the 250 GT SWB and worked with designer Sergio Scaglietti to design the bodywork. After Bizzarrini was fired, Mauro Forghieri continued to work with Scaglietti. Unlike most Ferraris, the 250 GTO is not designed by a specific person or design agency.
The rest of the car was typical for a Ferrari of the early sixties: hand-welded tubular frame, a-shape front suspension, active rear axle, disc brakes and Borrani spoked wheels. The five-speed gearbox was new for Ferrari racing cars; the metal plate that at the time showed the shift pattern in the car is still used in production models today. The interior was very limited, it even lacked a speedometer. Many knobs and levers came from the Fiat 500 and rumour has it that the car went into production in a hurry and that the original seats were made from overalls of the employees.

Artist’s statement:

The driving force behind my artwork is an enduring interest in cars, sports and luxury goods. During my development as an artist, I created my own style that has developed over the years. Recent works are somewhat freer, although attention to detail is still important to me. Some works fall more under street art, others may fall under pop art. Paint with mixed techniques from oil paint to acrylic. Always on linen canvas. The original canvases are for sale on time and are only made in a very exclusive and low edition of art prints. All reproductions are limited, personally signed and numbered. Besides working in Formula 1, I also like to capture classic race cars on canvas. The past year I started painting exclusive watches on request. The Rolex brand has often been the subject. I also make commission art on request.
