Lot: B & W DM-2a Vintage 1978 transmission-line speaker set. The beautiful enclosures are made of walnut wood. 3-way system with 3 units including the renowned Coles super-tweeter. The speakers and front covers are in complete, well-maintained, lightly used, original condition. The DM-2(a) is the reference model speaker from the 1970s and dominated the market up to the early 1980s. All large top model speakers introduced from 1975 were compared to the DM-2(a) up to around 1982. Thanks to the transmission line construction method, a deep, uncoloured bass reproduction is produced which also demands a lot of power from the amplifier. Connected to a powerful, stable amplifier from around 75 watts the listener is rewarded with an unparalleled richness of sound. In the user manual, B & W recommends that the speakers be tilted back 9 degrees when placed on the floor by means of (the easy-to-recreate) PLS-2 accessory, an oblique, reclining frame, or placement on stands of about 40 cm. to bring the treble units to ear level.
