Head of HEMBA ancestor statue
This superb head is what remains of an ancestor statue called MUHNA.
It is imbued with great dignity and inner serenity.
It is a work of the northern HEMBAs, as confirmed by two photos in the appendix (François Neyt, La statuaire Hemba, 1977, pp. 431 and 433).
The style is typified and easily identifiable by details of face and by originality of hairstyle.
Very beautiful idealized face, with subtle reliefs.
Natural patina of the wood.
