Rare statue of female ancestor BOYO
The Boyo are people living east of the Hemba, near the Lake Tanganika shores.
Their statuary is characterized by an original, highly structured plastic.
The body is powerful, stocky legs, arms bowed forward, triangular face with half-closed eyes and a big nose.
Statue linked to the cult of the ancestors.
Heavy wood, beautiful crusty black patina.
Boyo pieces are rare and sought-after, here a statue of a female ancestor.
Collector's item, very old.
