Andre de Dienes (1913-1985) was born in Hungary. After an art education in Paris he worked there as a photographer for, among others, l’humanité and Associated Press. In 1938, he emigrated to the United States and dedicated himself to fashion, nude and landscape photography. He worked for magazines like Esquire, Vogue and Life. He is best known for his photographs of Marilyn Monroe but also photographed Anita Ekberg, Ingrid Bergman, Jane Russell, and many others.
