This so-called butler telephone with bell, internal connection knob and receiver was used indoors but could also be used to connect to the exchange.
The telephone comes on a wooden console.
The receiver has the brand name Ergephon.
These types of telephones can also be seen in sets of television series from around the turn of the century (late 1800s), they were of course used in homes with (live-in) staff as well. This one comes from a country house along the river Vecht in the Netherlands.
