Space Invader is an anonymous French artist, who pops up in urban settings by setting up a series of pixelated mosaic martians. He never reveals his identity and doesn’t ask for permission before creating his pieces. His iconography is inspired by the video game Space Invaders, developed in 1978 by Toshihiro Nishikado.
It is an invitation to see the city differently and improve its context through a circuit game that invites us to focus on the details of our environment that we may not have noticed yet.
Since 1990, the mysterious artist has invaded urban centres around the world; he has already exhibited in Paris, London, Barcelona, New York, Istanbul, and Vienna, but it wasn’t until December 2007 that he decided to work in Bilbao, where he was part of the exhibition organised by Alba Lucia Romero: Perception (S)tencible, from 25 January until 29 February 2008 at the Bilbao Arte art production centre.
