Il San Leonardo è il vino più celebre e rappresentativo della prestigiosa Tenuta San Leonardo, la cui produzione fu inaugurata con la storica vendemmia del 1982. Si tratta di un vino di taglio bordolese: prende vita da un selezionato assemblaggio di vini proventi da diverse uve, vinificati e maturati separatamente, come i migliori Bordeaux. L’uvaggio è composto da Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc e Merlot, a cui si aggiunge il Carmenère, un vitigno internazionale introdotto nella Tenuta a fine ‘800 e riscoperto in tempi recenti.

Dal 1982 ad oggi critica e pubblico sono stati concordi nel definire il San Leonardo come uno dei migliori tagli bordolesi d’Italia: James Suckling lo chiama “il Sassicaia del Nord”, il Wine Advocate di Robert Parker lo considera “uno dei più grandi vini italiani”, l’AIS ha parlato di “monumento a Bordeaux in terra italiana”.
