This is how it goes: loss of time and lack of time from trying different things. For years and years I have worked with deadlines, sometimes with a little head start, sometimes without, occasionally with a delay: then, you make emergency decisions: drive to Eelde early in the morning and send the pages by the first City Hopper flight, or, as here, skip the colourist. Make a copy yourself and colour it directly. You can tell on this Veronica page, but there was no other way.
Trying different things is another thing that erodes a head start: these are a number of sketches and even ink drawings of one of the images on this page.
Two sets in this lot around plate 34 of "de Vlucht van de Atlantis":
-hand-coloured watercolour colouring on copy, A3, signed
-page 34 "de Vlucht van Atlantis" as in Veronica magazine 1992
-sketch, pencil on sketch paper, A4, signed
-half-inked image, pencil and ink on drawing board, 18x16.5 cm, signed
-inked image, ink on drawing board, 18 x 16.5 cm, signed
The winner of this lot will also receive the special print, made for this auction in an edition of 150 unnumbered copies, in colour in A4 size, signed by Henk Kuijpers (see final image).
The original of this print can also be found in this auction. See the final lot.
