In the environs of the city of Kerman, in southeaster Iran, lives a semi-nomadic population of Afshar stock. For hundreds of years, these Nomads lived in the northwestern part of Iran, but part of the tribe was forced to migrate to present day area, where production of carpets became an important activity.
These carpets feature red and blue tones and most of the time geometric patterns. The most common pattern includes a large central field with one or more square medallions that some say symbolise an animal hide that is spread out to be worked on.
