Simonet Frères - a French Art Deco wall light, sconce

Simonet Frères - a French Art Deco wall light, sconce
France - ca. 1930 - *

A very rare authentic 1930 French art deco wall sconce. A nickel plated solid brass or bronze mount holds a beautiful slip shade in patinated clear frosted moulded-pressed glass.

Simonet started in the 19th century as a company specialized in gilt bronze decorations for furniture candlesticks gaz lamps, etc. In 1919 just after the first worldwar the brothers Charles and Robert Simonet re-opened the workshops and store of their father (downtown Paris, 60 rue des Archives). The company finaly closed its door in 1970. During the art deco era the sculptor and designer Henri Dieupart (1888-1928) created numerous vases as well as some lampshades and mounts, edited by Simonet freres. The glass vases and shades were produced by the Cristallerie Choisy-le-Roi. The rare art deco lamps by Simonet frères are nowadays sought after items that make high prices at auctionhouses. Similar to Genet & Michon, Lalique, Brandt , Ruhlmann.

At the back the mount is signed Simonet frères. This wonderful model shade is never signed. It is extremely rare. I only saw a chandelier with six of these shades once and it got sold over 100K. The sconces I never saw before. A small chandelier can be seen in an add I found in an old 1928 designers magazine.

The sconce is 13,4 cm high, 15 cm wide and 18,5 cm deep. It is in good condition. I have renickeled and patinated the mount. A small non disturbing chip on teh rim as can be seen on the pictures. The fixture comes rewired. For the USA Canada or Japan I will wire it with an American candelabra base socket. For European countries I placed a E14 one so you can use our normal bulbs for it.

Safe packaging guaranteed : As specialized restorer of French art Deco lighting for over 20 years I ship my parcels worldwide with the fragile items well protected and fully insured.
