Sjoerd Buisman (Gorinchem, 1948) studies the way in which trees and plants grow. He also experiments with it - by tying a knot in a branch of a pollard willow or constricting a pumpkin with a leather belt.
The way nature reacts to Buisman's interventions teaches him about the underlying laws and patterns. He is impressed by the way in which nature adapts itself to the interventions made by man and the form language that this produces.
Buisman studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam (1965-1967) and at De Ateliers (1968-1970). Buisman's work has been shown in CODA Museum (Apeldoorn), Galerie Ramakers (The Hague), Arti et Amicitiae (Amsterdam), Kröller-Müller Museum and Rijksmuseum Twenthe Enschede.
