*When Sanne Sannes (1937) died suddenly and far too soon in 1967, he was a leading photographer in the Netherlands and was about to break through internationally, even though he had only been active as a photographer and filmmaker for eight years. Sannes' central theme is ‘the woman’. Ranging from witch to saint, these women depict emotional moments. ‘They are the embodiment of eroticism as a “field of vision in which all human emotions can be accommodated, in which man becomes aware of something almost instinctive, the game. The moment when you become aware that something is going on”. (from an interview in 1964).’
