Antique Koliayeh Kurdistan rug, 187 x 135 cm.
Hand-knotted for private use around 1920 by a nomadic female knotter of the Koliayeh tribe in the southern part of the Kurdistan province in northwestern Persia.
The rug is in good condition with a uniformly good, medium to low pile of soft, shiny wool, with some wear to the upper part of the field.
Good edges with new wool wrapping.
The head end is virtually complete and finished tightly.
The bottom end is complete with the original kilim finish, with some wear.
A somewhat irregular design for the Koliayeh (more common in the north of Kurdistan); an open drawing in saturated colours from natural dyes.
Very supple texture.
Woollen warp and a woollen, singularly woven weft.
The rug has been cleaned.
