Thomas François Cartier was a French sculptor and was well known for his animal sculptures, a mid 19th century trend of naturalistic representations of animals in both painting and sculpture. Cartier specialised in lions, panthers - big cats -, hunting dogs, decorative objects.
Born on 21 February 1879, in Marseille, France, he took part in the Paris Salons from 1904 onwards, for which he won a gold medal in 1927. Cartier died in 1943.
