John Gossage and Alec Soth were invited to Auckland, New Zealand, to photograph in the spring of 2009. This was a trip of departures for both. Gossage had worked in black and white for more than forty years and this trip resulted in one of his first works in colour. Soth’s work with the 8x10 camera has inspired a whole generation of his contemporaries and leaving this behind was the key to approach the world from a new visual perspective. The results represent a major shift of vision for both these enormously important American photographers. This publication forms the highlight of the trip. Both the concept and the contents of this book are driven by the unique character of the ‘collaboration’ and the primary achievement of the book for the artistic practice of both Soth and Gossage. In essence two books in one.
