Description
M.C. - salver
France - 1890-1919 - Iron (cast/wrought), Wood
This tray from the late nineteenth century consists of a very refined forged iron frame with legs and handles shaped like holly twigs. The thick solid wooden tray is decorated with a pyro-engraving and then painted, and partially gilded. It is signed with the initials C M or M C. The style is inspired by Japanese examples. This Japonisme is one of the inspiration sources of Art Nouveau. The decorative forging is in the quality of Edgar Brandt and has a pure Art Nouveau design.
