DEBORAH TURBEVILLE (1932-2013). After completing school, she went on to work for Harper's Bazaar magazine after a few years and soon became an editor. While there, she worked with photographers like Richard Avedon, Bob Richardson, and Diane Arbus.
Turbeville's photo books include Studio St. Petersburg, The Voyage of the Virgin Maria Candelaria, Newport Remembered, and Unseen Versailles. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Fine Art in Boston.
Deborah Turbeville is a legend in fashion photography. Her photographs, always halfway between fashion and art, have introduced an aesthetics and staging that are still rare. And the grain in her photos brought her closer to art photography.
This 1986 book, published by Centre Georges Pompidou, was signed during the exhibition from 25 June to 29 September 1986.
