Welcome to Passion d'Orient:
Malayer is a beautiful little town located between the towns of Hamadan and Arak. The region produces the best grapes and some of the most beautiful rugs. The consistency, fidelity and originality of the weave of these rugs, not influenced by other carpets, makes them the most sought-after rugs. Each Malayer family has designs which are woven into the carpets. Their designs are symmetrical or asymmetrical with floral or geometric patterns. They also weave small representations with different combinations and balance such as human figures, riders, camels, horses and ducks at lakes with goldfish (symbol of good luck). Thanks to the finesse of the carpets, the designs are very easy to see. The wool is of very high quality with natural brightness. The colours are natural or sometimes synthetic on the newer rugs. The orange colour with the deep brownish-red of rust gives an unusual character to the carpets. The result is excellent when all the colours are combined with the indigo midnight blue and the natural beige of the wool, which soften and absorb the other colours very well, giving a three-dimensional shape to the designs. This type of shading is also found in old Saruk and Feraghan carpets. Carpet sellers always have a Malayer rug in their collection to attract customers.
