Die zaak van prachtdrukken
De briefwisseling tussen Julius de Praetere en L. J. Veen.
bezorgd door H. T. M. van Vliet
Kalmthout, De Carbolineumpers, 2011
Beautiful bibliophile edition of the correspondence between the Belgian craft letterpress printer, graphic artist and binding designer Julius De Praetere (1879-1947) and the Dutch publisher L.J. Veen (1863-1919). At the time Veen was one of the few Dutch publishers who followed Flemish literature with great interest and succeeded in contracting Streuvels, and later Gezelle. Through them he also came into contact with De Praetere with whom he would maintain a business relationship for three years.
The largely unpublished correspondence sheds new light on De Praetere's books, their actual circulation and the way in which they were produced.
The text of 72 letters and 180 pages is set by hand, printed on the handpress and illuminated with thirteen photos, various illustrations and initials. The photos have extra protection in the form of a sheet of transparent paper.
Edited and annotated by prof. Dr. H.T.M. Vervliet.
Sewn in, with protective slipcase, 60 numbered copies signed by Van Vliet.
This is no. 57.
In immaculate condition.
