Stone: petrified wood, with a nice natural little geode

Origin: Madagascar
This is a piece of fossilised wood dating back 200 million years, all parts coming from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were replaced little by little by silicone in the form of jasper, chalcedony and, more rarely, opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone: there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks.
Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood: the silicone.
And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
