'Othniel Charles Marsh (1831 – 1899) was an American paleontologist. Marsh and his fellows went on trips between 1870 and 1893 to find additions to their fossil collections. Fossil mammals were found from the Tertiary (the current Paleogene and Neogene). Fossil dinosaurs and pterosaurs were found in layers from the Jurassic and Cretaceous.
Marsh raised the abuses by the government of the Indians in public, which gave him the lasting friendship of the Dakotas.
