Peppermint box (1) - .833 silver – Johannes Petrus Sperna Weiland, Schoonhoven - 1839.
Good condition - used with minor signs of old age and blemishes.
The square peppermint or pill box was made in 1839 by the silversmith Johannes Petrus Sperna Weiland from Schoonhoven (1837-1883). The ribbed box is in a very good condition and has no defects or restorations. A blank shield was placed in the centre of the lid.
The master stamp (S above 31 in square) was stamped twice, the Minerva head with the letter M (Schoonhoven) and the running lion (2nd content silver) stamped once. On the edge is the year letter E (1839).
The dimensions of the box are 4.5 x 4.5 x 1.3 cm and the weight is 25 grams.
